what’s the future of content?
it’s resetting… kinda.
A lot of real things are happening in the world right now. Not that real things haven’t always been going on, but we’re in another cycle of things that are effecting EVERYONE.
what does that mean for brands?
I honestly feel like we’re moving back—be it temporarily, or for a little while (10-20 years)—to a they “days of old.” Shows on streaming networks are going back to the one-episode-a-week model, people are tired of celebrities/public figures pretending to be relatable and being sh*tty—Smiths and Kardashians, we see you—people are listening to music by musicians who play real instruments, and community is more important than “clout.”
Now, the big boys they/thems (trying to be inclusive here) like Amazon, Facebook, Netflix, etc. haven’t quite caught on yet—as usual—to what “small” creators are doing and what is actually happening among the “pleebs” like myself and other “small” creators. In short, people wanted to be treated like people and not just data, or consumers.
Sure, people will always buy things and “consume,” but people want to know that brands and creators actually care that they’re being supported by THE PEOPLE.
How else did Dave Chappelle get The Chappelle Show removed from Netflix because he didn’t own the rights to it and therefore wasn’t being paid? THE PEOPLE. How was Andrew Schulz able to pop during the 2020 Global Pandemic with a show format that came for everybody and everything’s neck that was fake-virtuous/good? THE PEOPLE. Why is Doja Cat having a hard time
